昆虫の多くは光源を元に行きたい方角を決める「走光性」という運動特性を持っています。光のなかった時代に、太陽や月の位置を目印にして方角を決めていた名残のようです。ちなみに方角を決めるためには昆虫の両目に均等に光が当たる必要があります。街灯の光などは太陽に比べて小さいので、両目に光をえるためにはどんどん近づかなければなりません。つまり光に集まっているのではなく、光から抜け出せなくなっている状態なのです。かわいそうですね。
